I was getting annoyed at the weed and lack of fish in the Solent where I live and felt I had been wasting my time!
So after seeing Cuckoos recent report from Pagham I decided to go there. Having looked at the chart below I changed my mind and went to Selsey Bill. Don't you just love Google?! It helped me pick a perfect launch point with free parking - bonus. So I set off at 7am having loaded the car the night before
Having killed my sat nav now what I do is take a pic of the area I am going to and using an Aquapak I can easily find the areas I want to get to without having to go to any expense
It is weird here, as you can see there is a ring almost of bank and it is quite shallow for a bit. As I set off it was cold and weird as the sea was protected by the bank and spookily glassy flat. As I set off in front was a load of breakers all around me.
I paddled through it and off towards some boats in the distance. As I got closer I saw that they were putting nets up and so paddled past them as I didn't want to be fishing the wrong side of the nets!
Anyway here is a summary of my day ;D
First in was a black bream -
Then a few Poor Cod -
Then a massive scrap with what I hoped was a bass but no, you guessed it!
I love this picture (not as good as my smoothound one though)
- he looks well grumpy
Well, I was happy at that and as the water slacked, the sun came out too!
THEN...... tap tap tap - and I struck. The spinning rod bent over and clutch started slipping...... this was the result ;D ;D ;D
About 5lb
Anyway, I know that comapared to others on here its not that amazing but considering I have only been fishing down here for a year on the Yak I'm well chuffed. Not only do I get 4 different species in one day but my target species for once!
I have had such a lovely day, in a sunny quite part of the world - just me and the fish. What more can you want? (Thanks Cuckoo for the inspiration!)
