i'm sure this is no secret, but have never seen it printed anywhere. if you use a brolley, or ifs its just blowing a gale and the rods are at risk from clattering to the deck, then beach guy ropes are the answer. get a plastic bag and tie a lengh of shock leader to the handle. then just attach it to what ever (brolly/shelter/tripod) put a couple of handfuls of shingle/sand in the bag and bury it in the beach. simple. this has saved my rods on a couple of occassions .

The shock leader says it all. If the system will survive with 60lb, then it doesn't need too much ballast.
I don't use beach brollies.......... I'm hard! (it sez 'ere) :cheers:
I do use ballast; a Lidl reusable bag on my rod rest (that'll take about 1cwt) but I don't need much. The bag also doubles as my catch bag........... a pity it seldom gets used........... :dunce:

never thought bout hanging it off the tripod, i put the guy rope out in front of the pod, like a 4th leg.
