If you can get over to Percy See Marine Warehouse, Lower Quay, Fareham. They have got some specials in, cant remember the make but it is a popular one. Really big display, fully waterproof and they float! I think they are down from £129 to £60

Check the depth they can go to as well. Mine can only go to 1m down... which doesn't seem like much. I have the Nexus NX1500.... only problem with it is the pressel switch is not made very well and it sometimes sticks... It works though and is a great standby and personal VHF. I like to carry it around when I'm alone out on the boat... be nice to be able to shout for help when bobbing along at 2 Knots towards Wareham No substitute though for a boat mounted system... with a proper aerial ... not even close in !

I've got a standard Horizon handheld, not sure on the model but it was around £150 and has been a brilliant back up, I bought it because it got really good reviews from all the boating magazines.

No substitute though for a boat mounted system... with a proper aerial ... not even close in ! It's worth mounting a boat aerial that can connect into the handheld, gives far more range and reliability.
