Ay Up! Only me I'm looking at selling my current rods and buying myself a nice matching pair. I fish a lot of varied ground including out-back, sandy beaches, snaggy places etc etc. I'm not a big caster, but I do want something that I can be confident with when attempting to chuck a 6oz gripper with a biggish bait a reasonable distance, but still have bite detection when sole fishing etc with reasonably light gear. My current rods are greys grx and a diawa supercast (both multi version). I suppose I'm really looking for a good all-rounder for a mid-range budget :rtfm: All ideas and opinions welcome. Including fixed spool combo's. :nerd: :blah: :ahhh: Thanks Pj

Ive got a pair of zzipplex T/F 50/50s up for grabs if you want them. They will do just about anything you want.

'course, it depends what you want to spend mate, I am happy enough with relatively cheap gear (Firefly/Shakespeare/Ron Thompson) but one of my mates has ten year old Zipplex's. He doesn't catch anymore than I do though and admits that he probably wouldn't spend that kind of money now. These days, I generally define what I want to do then go looking for the kit that will do it at the best price.

Not sure how time effects the beach casting kit, but if it is the same as freshwater stuff then top quality rods from 1-15 years ago are now inferior to mid-range brands being sold now...at a fraction of the cost. Carbon rods have certainly come down in price.
But some blanks were well ahead of the competition and have stood the test of time... Amorhous Whisker rods being a good example. Guess Zziplex are in the same category...timeless quality

Thanks for all the replies chaps. I am happy with the rods I've got, but I think that having a matching pair would help my casting and be more comfortable to use. I've been looking at a few of the Abu rods as they seem to have good reviews. Abu suveran, Abu xodus and the Hellbender Surf. Veals have got the Hellbender Surf at £100 which I thought sounded good. I think the zippy's may be a little out of my price range. It depends what I can get for my rods as to how much I've got to spend. I'm thinking £200-£250 for a pair max. I don't mind second-hand for the right rods, I'll just have to keep my eye out for a good deal I think. pj

for that money pj you ought to be able to get a decent set up
either second hand century ccc , few of them floating around
or a pair of mid range new ones ........po out and see paul in sandown scotties, always got a few rods in
would have thought a supercast you got to be pretty good ?

If I could find another one to match then I'd keep it and just sell the greys. My eyes are peeled :rtfm:

Have you looked at the greys triplex? may be a bit pricey, Mine was £219 new from internet store, but what a fishing rod . I bought a 16ft in january and use in favour of most my other rods including the likes of zippy primo, extra length gives increased distance with simple overhead thump! has hauled big stingers to small pout, + gr8 bit registration. latest model suits fixed spool or multiplier. given the money i would by another tomorow. (just my opinion)
