I use 80lb shocky for all of my fishing as you only need a slight nick in it to seriously decrease the strength. And after seeing someone get hit by a 100g lead when brand new 60lb shocky snapped Im not going to risk going any lower, especialy when fishing with 175g leads and a decent bait. As for knots if im fishing mixed or rough ground I tie a bimini twist in the main line and then use an albright knot with the shocky through the loop of the bimini. For clean ground I normally just tie an overhand knot in the leader, pass the mainline through it and then tie a grinner round the leader.
