Lovely reels Sunny. I've had my eye on one. Would love to put the baby baitrunner through its paces this summer. Be interesting to know what you manage to land on the 4000.

Going to be targetting Smooth Hound inshore from the dinghy....so expecting some spectacular runs. If the drag can stand-up to that then they will get my endorsement I'll keep you posted

yeah they look the part i am going to buy a pair of 6000s for bass fishing ...what i will add is how come i put a post up 9 days before sunny in the tackle section and didnt even get a reply ...thought to myself hmmm seems these reels are to sexy for this sea fishing lot cos of coarse they are actually designed for coarse fishing check out the shimano catalogue .yes i know they have shielded bearings with some salt protection ...better be better at salt than most other shimanos or they will be pants ...the original american baitrunners are where they get there history from and as freshwater reels they that is the seaspin american baitrunner 3500 were bombproof and were and still are cult reels in the carp world ...could be good time will tell .

Sorry I missed your article Cam... no photos mate ;D Bloomin nice kit though. mmake sure you let us know how you get on with the 6000 size. So far I have been uptiding with the 12000 size and the baitrunner function worked perfectly - even in a big tidal run which needed an 8oz grip-lead. Not had a big fish yet...so they won't get a full seal of approval until I've hauled a 60Lb+ Conger over the side

i always wash my reels out with fresh water after getting back from the sea and give them a wipe down and a squirt of wd . Shimano as i am sure you are aware make some awesome reels and there expensive top of the range multipliers and fixed spools of say the quality and price of Stellas have no problems with the salt .However i have had nothing but trouble taking lesser reels from shimano to sea .The 5000b baitrunners at around £80 will be badly affected very quickly, i took one to sea just three times bass fishing, and that was enough to completely knacker the reel . The baitrunner adjustment corroded solid, whilst the actual drag adjustment still moved but it doesn't adjust the drag anymore .the handles go round now without turning on the ends . i also had to replace the handle of a long cast baitrunner which is about the same size as your larger d series baitrunner .The reel cost me about £160 ,i have three of them for my carp fishing and cannot fault the reels for freshwater fishing, i have had them for about five years .i took one of them smoothhound fishing in the solent .just that one trip despite washing the reel when returning ,was enough to corrode the handle . i do hope that shimano have got it right with these reels because its not asking for the moon for the reel to be able to withstand the salt .i have a thirty year old swedish built abu ambassador .spent most of its life sea fishing and is as good as it ever was .

The bearings in my calcutta 400 failed after about 10 trips and getting a bit wet, I dont wash my reels off to often but still for the price of the reel it should have been able to cope with a bit of salt water. The rest of the reel internals were fine, just the bearings that had turned in a couple of horrible lumps of rust!
