Is there any clever way to know how much mono backing to load on to a multiplier before you connect braid?
I have 300yrds of 30lb PowerPro and want it all on but not sure how much backing I need (30lb mono).
The only way I can think of is put the braid on first then the mono backing until the correct amount and then use another reel (which I don't have!) to take them off again?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thats the best way to do it mate! Otherwise just take a guess really, if you are fishing from a boat it doesnt really matter if the lines not quite up to the top of the spool anyway, so just fill the spool about half way with mono then put the braid on, should be fine.

Make up a mandrill ( Large bolt & nut with a few washers) which will fit the chuck of your cordless drill and the spool you just emtied of braid wind the line & the mono back onto the spool, you just emptied of braid. Then swap the mandrill over to another spare spool do it again. The line will now be the right way around to wind on to the reel with the mono going on first. Bit of a fag to set up the first time you do it but once you have the kit your set up for ever.

one other way wind braid on first then wind on mono ,take yourself to a field i am lucky to have one right outside front door.tie mono to nail and push into ground .walk off all line and attach braid to nail ..push in ground .return to the other end and reconnect mono to reel .you can now wind on with a nice bit of tension all the mono and braid .
