Having not paddled this year yet due to work and a bereavment I decided it was time to blow a few cobwebs out so I went to HillHead where I had the place to myself - too cold for the doggers, I mean dog walkers!
I paddled out for about a mile as the weather was looking good, but realised that there was a blooming great big cloud and wind heading my way. After sitting up for a bit waiting for the weather to pass I had a mad thought to go to the island for the second time.
As I paddled out towards Cowes I was racking up 5 knotts without breaking a sweat ;D There were loads of choppers flying around....
Weather was holding up nicely towards the Island
Cowes ahead!
About 45 minutes later I landed near to a castle and had a cuppa! God knows what its called as I have only lived here for about 4 years!?
Thinking over the last year that IOW fishing must be better (grass is greener mentality!) I anchored up at the bouy and had my lunch, hoping that the second I bite into a sandwich i'll get a bite! But no, nothing
The weather than started coming in and it was a bitterly cold Northerly wind (about 10mph) and the tide was ripping through. I set off and it was really, really, really hard work against the 3knott tide and wind - I was only going about 2mph back.....
After what seemed like an eternity I managed to crawl back to about 1 mile away from my launch and as I'd been paddling for about 2 hours solid against the tide I stopped again to try for some fish. The weather was crap by then and was really chilly, and as I was about to set off I saw a boat belting towards me. I thought it was a fishing boat checking how I was getting on - instead it was these guys checking on how I was. Nice to see them out and about and seeing if i was Ok.
The last mile was a killer, but eventually I got back.
No fish, but good excercise, and great to be out again ;D
As I sat down the weather came in which just goes to show that if you think its going to get worse it probably will!!!
This is Fawley from HillHead.....
Now, where next? Hmmmm, the Needles are still firmly in my sights
