Wow! Looks fantastic Nick The arch looks very nicely made, and from your pics fits like a glove Spring washers under the butterflies would prevent them unwinding I reckon... ...and tell your dog to get off my seat ;D

Hi Nick, great radar arch. However I am still a little concerned with the stability of the roof. Although you have stengthened the rear split section with the radar arch, it concerns me that the stresses and strains created by the extra weight as the boat porposes through the water may well create other stress fractures in the roof. I have taken a photo of the inside of a raider's cuddy, this was probably one of the last to be built by Dave Baxter at Eastbourne. You will see a extra Rib has been glassed in to stop the flapping motion that your boat has suffered from. You can probably now understand why i was shocked to see a split in the first instance, this was obviously a problem that has been resolved after your boat had been built. I am sure this would be a belt and braces solution to your problem if you were able to copy this. I hope this is of some help.

I will also have one done - the same, to give it additional structural support. The problem with stiffening any structure that is designed to flex is that you risk inducing stress around the the supported area. But the flexing of the roof was only along the trailing edge, not the entire roof. It isn't meant to flex...unlike say an aircraft wing... so the transfer of energy through to the hull should complete the role that would have been carried out had the sides been solid and not as produced; with the raked styling back from the windows. You could hang an elephant off it now I'd be very surprised if it developed transfered stress fractures. Especially as the evidence points towards it being broken by passengers using it as a hand hold in rough seas

nick, that metal work is something else, obviously your own design because of the issues with the roof - well done she looks well mate. Talking about cars and good solid engineering I always thought seagull engines were a good example of " they don't make them like that anymore" same as the morris & MG come to that.
