Hi,can anyone please suggest an optimum size inboard for an 18ft Cheverton Champ we are fitting out for fishing? We were told it had an 18hp Saab, but it looks like it may actually be 8hp.Anyones experiences with this boat would be greatly appretiated, thanks.

I'm sure you will get a few really good replies. You could also try a pm to (John) Monkeynuts.... he's an inboard expert

Dunno about the boat mate but the SAAB engine is a little cracker. They are actually Lister petters under a different name. Indestructable springs to mind. Nice and simple and no silly electronics to go wrong. The only thing I would do to the engine is disconnect the stop solenoid (as they have a tendancy to stop working) and attach a piece of string to the fuel cut off lever. Then when you want to stop the engine, just pull the string!
