hi mate
if your looking for an easy way of lauching on most states of the tide i find lymington slip is good. the only times it becomes hard to launch or recover is 2 hrs berfor and 2 hrs after on the springs low unless you have 4wd and a dory along with a rolor trailer / break back then its happy lauching and recovery all day long. i launch all the time from there and find its an easy excessable wide slip with no heavy queues even in the summer busy months along with great parking for car and trailer with public WC's right on the slip. it is worth just getting up to speed on the traffic movements in the river as the is alot of incompetant boat owners along with ferry movement all the time. as for fishing clubs i would not know. hope this is a slight help to you.

There is one near Gosport called Elmore Angling Club who have a secure compound next to the RNLI slip at Stokes Bay, which you use. It is a nice wide concrete slip with 24 hour launching, I believe and access into sheltered waters.

sunny have you got any details on fawley as cant find any information thanks. Its part of the Calshot Activities site... I had a quick look on the web .... but nothing jumped out. Give Calshot Activities a ring; they will be able to put you in touch with the club there. There is one near Gosport called Elmore Angling Club who have a secure compound next to the RNLI slip at Stokes Bay, which you use. And the beach off Stokes Bay is very shallow on springs. At least Calshot is relatively sheltered. The other option would be the Itchen Bridge club used by a few guys on here...but a long way up Southampton Water. No site is absolutely perfect

Think the club by the rescue (Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue - GAFIRS) in Stokes bay is Gosport and district SAC? I think Elmore is on the point toward Lee and dosen't look at all secure - I may be wrong and apologies if I am. Best to have a look at the various compounds and satisfy yourself to their security. The club by the slip way in Stokes Bay next to GAFIRS is the Gosport and District Angling Club. The website is www.gosportdac.org.ukThe boat berthing fees were recently increased to £40 per meter (max size 18 feet!) and this increase moved out some of the "project boats" so I am pretty sure there are berths available. Membership is £50 per year. It may be a longer drive than you had hoped for but if you intend to fish the Eastern Solent you will save on fuel and time. I launch using a family estate car in all tides less spring lows when the end of the slip can be exposed. The slip is exposed to SW winds and a F5 SW makes it near impossible to re-trailer a boat though in an emergency you can go to Haslar Marina and walk to get your trailer. Security wise you are allowed to keep outboards on the boat (Elmore does not permit this) and there was an outboard that did a runner over the fence last year. Hope this helps John

onemorecast thats the compound i was hoping to get into .looks just right for me.i have looked on the website and see you need a proposer /seconder ,is this strict or are they quite open to new members ,as for distance i am on the east side of southampton so it is fine for me 20mins tops with no traffic .a bar as well so leave the missus in the bar and im off, then back in after an evenings fishing quick pint then home.

Totally open to new members, yes you need a proposer and seconder but that is not a problem. When I joined ( for the kids and then subsequently bought a boat) I pitched up on the junior night and filled out the form. Members present then proposed and seconded me.
I then got called forward for interview by the committee which was more really a means of doing introductions and finding out about my fishing interests.
PM me your telephone number if you need more info. I will send you a pm with the Secretary's telephone number.

I've heard the marinas there are amongst the most expensive along this stretch of coast; so your prices are very good indeed. I reckon you also have access to the best fishing within a reasonable distance.
