Just wondering what type of silicone sealant people use on their boats for small jobs? I could do with a small re-sealable toothpaste tube size of white sealant for the occasional small job such as sealing around the odd small screw hole etc. Do I need specific marine stuff or will DIY store bathroom type stuff do the job. There's quite a difference in price & I don't really need a large plunbers size tube. The larger ones usually end up going hard when stored in the garage, even with the knozzle sealed up.

Dow Corning is a decent make & they do a small tube for around a fiver, but once opened they will start to cure, you can help keep it longer by plugging the nozzle after use. You can use a normal exterior sealant but the marine type is likely a better option.

The best stuff - even for below water - is Sikaflex; but pricey and a pig to get off There are some less expensive marine ones Decorators Direct... marine grade sealant £3.68 (inc VAT)...not sure what the postage is though www.decoratingdirect.co.uk/viewprod/b/BITHA6/

Iv found the White Sikaflex discolours very quickly in sunlight mind. Too true, the white does yellow very quickly. On the upside I dont think anything comes close to it for sticking / sealing to grp.
