Can anyone recommend a tried and tested reliable light clear mono (8-12lb) to use as a main line on a fixed spool from the boat.
The last light mono I bought was Daiwa Sensor which had almost as much stretch as power-gum!

Completely agree with regards to Sensor. I tried some 6lb stuff and it was like bait elastic. Suffix Tritanium is seriously good stuff, I use is for everything now. Very predictable and great abrasion resistance.

I've used it for a couple of years it is very good and the grey is as near clear as makes no difference unless you want to use it on the river Test

The two I use are Berkley Vanish and Krystonite Super Copolymer Monofilament ( Both are Fluorocarbon Coated) its not cheap but I swear its the best that I'v found.
