Here is another form of pulley tackle, which I first made some 30-odd years ago for my young brother in law. He caught dozens of Dabs with it.
Used with a self cocking float it is amazingly sensitive.
I have used it for shy bites from both beach and boat. You just need to set your drag to minimum. By the time you have tightened the drag, the fish is already hooked.
I'll not bore you with explanations. It works well. and the diagrams are self explanatory
