took my boat out for a run today it ran fine for 200 yards then lost all power.restarted ok but would not rev up at first but then fired into life.opend it up again and 100 yards died again took it back in kicked it like a little school boy and checked out under the hood to see if i could find any faults, the plugs were black and wet so went and got some new plugs.fitted tested still sounded rough, cleaned out the petrol filter,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, then i noticed the choke was stuck on, free it off and the engine sounded loads better do you think the fault i was getting was due to the choke being stuck on? ?? olly

If you free it with WD40, put some oil or greese on it afterwards, WD40 dries out.

OK , another thing to look at may be the fuel tank connector, they can wear out over time and allow air to be drawn in , causing the engine to cough and splut. At idle ok ,but a bit of throttle ,the fuel pump sucks harder allowing air in.To test simply pump the fuel bulb with the tank connected and if you hear an air leak on the tank connector ,change it ,or put a rubber o ring on the brass shaft to make a good fit . Just a thought.

hiya Wquity iv got a complete new hose with bulb that ill fit, iv also got a inline water fuel filter separater that ill fit as well i no it wont be much its just a case of going through things 1 at a time till its sorted, iv got rik comeing to service it in the week and ill through all the 40 odd ltrs of petrol in the tank and air the tank until its dry then put fresh in you are right it idles ok all the time and some times it revs its nuts off.its like you say its as if air is getting in or it could be bad petrol but 1 thing i did notice and correct me if im wrong,,,,,,,,,,,,, the prime bulb kept going soft as if it was only takeing the petrol that was pumped by hand then it started to run crap? olly

how old is the petrol becase when jason had outboards he had some trouble like your saying and was told beacse the fuel was 6/8 weeks old that it loses its spark and needs topping up to give it that spark back and it did work

I'll put money on , it's air getting in somewhere or the choke. So put yer wallet away the engine sounds fine.Couple of things you could try.1 .Put some fresh fuel in .2.Bypass the fuel filter and plug straight into the tank, muffs on , fast idle. 3.If still playing up after a few mins, connect a nearly empty fuel tank , tighten shut the vent on the cap .Tank should deform slightly proving fuel pump and line ok. Or its is the choke just stuck on. Annoying aint it ?
