I got into a conversation about non wobbling wobblers, home made of course. The problem my friend had was that his did not look very realistic under drag.
His plugs are beautifully made and streamlined, which is probably why he fell into the trap!
Fish do not rationalise as we do. I think it fair to say that, to a fish, if it moves right, looks right and sounds right, its probably food!
So how to make it move?
Do you know your Venturi Theory? Because the answer lies in that.
Streamlining is OK, if you are going for the sound barrier. In mobile fishing tackle you want those pressure waves, due to sharp right angles.
To manufacture a pressure wave you need to speed up the water around the front end of your plug........... and that does not mean speed up your retrieve..........
A fairly flat sided front end, with a slight amount of front end streamlining will pressurise the water, in passage, close to the sides. A pretty sharp reverse end streamlining will allow that pressure to suddenly release into the cavity between front and rear sections. The trailing edge requires a decent convex parabolic shape, to keep the pressure wave close in. This will cause a relatively strong eddy between the two sections.
To capitalise on the enhanced eddies, the leading edge of the rear section needs to be flat and at right angles to the axis of the section. This will cause the eddies to push against the flat edges and will cause one side to be forced backward........ straightforward lack of equilibrium.
This will happen very quickly, pushing one side against the flow, as the plug moves forward. The reaction is to be expected. The slab side of the section will be forced back toward and beyond its axis, allowing the eddies to push the front of the section backward in the opposite direction to the initiating thrust.
One started, the action will continue cyclically........... a wobble! ;D
If you then use a flat rubber band as the tail, it will wag in a most convincing manner!
........... just a thought............
