Noticed frayed line on my reel last night whilst retrieving and sure enough had the dreaded chipped tip-ring when I inspected it. Thought I could just glue in a replacment guide but reading through old threads it seems replacing the whole tip ring is easier.
A mate recommended diamite tip rings but I've just been reading posts from a tourney caster on another forum and he reckons they mess up the casting action of modern lightweight blanks. My rod is lightweight (Sonik SK3).
Anyone have any experience with diamites or could recommend another type to use?

Cheers BK.
I don't trust my local shops, seen some bodge jobs from them!
Anyone know a shop/builder in Hampshire that'll do a nice job?

Just decided to replace the tip ring on my bass rod and found an ebayer again - he is called broadland_tackle_shack and does cheapies and some more posh jobbies. I have chosen one of the more posh ones this time, hoping it will last a bit longer.

Successful job done last night: When the glue starts to melt from the gun, drop a blob into the tube of the tip ring and encourage it to run down into the tube by warming it with a gas lighter/whatever. Then let another decent size blob of glue drop onto the open end of the tube and immediately push your rod tip in making sure that it lines up with the other guides. If the glue starts to set a bit too quickly, you can still warm the tube and twist it carefully to line up. If all else fails you can warm the whole thing up take the ring off and have another go at it - this is the big advantage of hot melt glue. If you are not sure whether you have got it right, wait until everything has cooled down then try to pull the ring off with a firm but not totally manic effort - remember that the average fish is not going to pull the ring off with anywhere near the force you are likely to exert.
