hi all the engine on my new boat has apparently only done 4 hours from new,which i can believe as it is spotless its a 20 hp mariner 2 stroke how long will it need to be run in regards dave

yamaha say 1 hour @ no more than 2000rpm 1 hour @ no more than 3000rpm 8 hours at any speed avoiding full throttel afterf 10 hour in total, do what you like. i should think most engines are the same

Hard to believe its only done 4 hours since you havent been able to buy a 2-stroke since 2006?
Running in varies from one manufacturer to another.
Just avoid full throttle for a couple of hours, avoid ticking over for too long or keeping the throttle in one position too long, keep it varied.
After that try full throttle for a couple of minutes at a time and build up the amount of time you run it at full throttle over a couple of hours. after 10 hours or so take it in for a first service and use it as you please

damage is done in the early stages of any moter,manurfactures only recomend running in 2 safeguard this most modern moters dont need running in atall now PDI from supplirers is good enough trouble is m8 u dont know if the 4hrs its done where at wot revs just give it a couple of mins at steady increaceing revs all the way 2 full throtle just 2 hear 4 od noices if nun i think shell be fine 2 do wot u like member of slipper streem raceing

let it have once its warmed up 2 strokes need it so long as you got the oil mix right and use good quality oil used to race bikes only run them in for 2/3 laps never had any probs :-[engines and oils are so much better than 20 years ago they dont need much bedding in
