I had booked Friday off work to make a nice long weekend.By midweek xcweather were showing a possible weather window at Tywyn for the day. After work on Thursday it didn't look so promising and it wasn't until midnight before I finally decided to drive the 260 odd miles to Tywyn and give it a go.I drove for two hours then pulled into the services and got into bed in the van for a few hours kip before setting off a again to arrive at Tywyn around 8am.
When I got there I was glad that I'd made the effort, there was a little bit of chop but it was well do-able.
After a Cambrian Cafe full english breakfast and a visit to Barry's Tackle and Bait I launched around 11am,I almost had the reef to myself, there were just a couple of boats in the distance.
Baited up with mackerel, dropped it over the side and within half an hour had a run,had it on for a while and then it was away. When I retrieved my bait to the surface I saw that there was that much weed around the hook only a vegetarian fish would have gone for it ;D
Back down it went and after a short time the wratchet was screaming away(I love that sound )
After the usual determined tussle I brought alonside my first Tope of the year.....finally
Perfectly lip hooked and it was quickly released at the side of the yak.
I though it was going to get busy but from that point on the day went quiet apart from what seemed like millions of doggies/huss .....This one was trying to shag my ABU
I was joined by some guys after Bass in a small boat after a while and a display of low level flying by our armed forces
I paddled around trying various marks fruitlessly before settling on a mark near to where I fished last weekend with a few mates.
Finally had another run but it spat the hook before another that I was able to play in.
Again perfectly lip hooked and a super quick release,,,,,happy days
I saw my mate Marc J had just arrived and as I was heading up the river he was on his way out bait fishing and to have a pop at the Bass but as the weather people were predicting rain today I decided that I had got what I came for and headed for home a happy bunny ;D
As is customary with us Southern boys,no sooner do we knock Tope off the species list before our thoughts turn to Smoothound
As the tides were absolutely perfect this weekend it would have been criminal not to have a pop at them
Launched around 2130 on Sunday and paddled a massive .65 miles ;D before anchoring up in a massive 8ft. ;D
Baited up one rod and lowered the bait to the bottom and put it in the Scotty whilst I baited up the other.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ Didn't even have time to get a bait on the other hook before it was Smut on and running ;D
Played it up to the yak and the line parted just above the hook
Ah well, sure to be others :-/Why didn't I take a pic when it was alongside?we've all been there ;D
Sure enough, within a few minutes off we go again,No escape this time, within a short time my first Smut of the year.
FEISTY!!
I soon decided to fish with only one rod and a short while after lost another good fish(stupid me had not looked closely enough at the rigs I was using ,I was using my 3/0Codling rigs with 15lb line ) Quickly cannibalized a pennel rig that I had aboard with stronger line and tied on a 3/0 and lowered it to the bottom and presto!
Smoothy number 2 was landed and nose pierced at the same time-ouch!
Great Fun :-*Can't wait to do it again! ;D
