Well after spending some time out with Henry & Beaky last year it was a must to get my self a boat..........so the mission started.
After viewing loads of boats just within my price range one came along which looked to be the right starting place for my boating experience.
The 'test drive', bearing in mind this was in early October rather cold but the condition was good to meet the owner and take her out for a spin. I bought along a boat builder I know for the ride, check the condition of the hull etc..and off out of Wootton Creek we went....rather to fast I must admit.....but it got better......
Out of the creek we went full tilt on the Johnson 60 (rather old) with no water coming out of the cooling system. With a rather worried look we asked if we could turn around as this was not a good sign, we had only got to about the third ferry post when the inevitable happened...over heating alarm went off with smoke pouring out of the engine cover...worried..YES!!!!
We flew in at about the same speed we flew out but this time more like a red arrow, crashing into the first pontoon we saw I was rather relieved at least I could jump off onto dry land. We were then faced with a smoldering engine and a rather angry pontoon owner giving us hell about speeding out of the creek...ignoring the smoke coming from under the engine cover and the fact that two of us were looking rather worried.
With the engine now a little less smoldering we decided to start the aux and putter back to the pontoon......about 30mins later we managed to start the aux and get back to where we started to the boats pontoon.
I did feel for the chap who owned the boat because if you were trying to sell something and all that could go wrong, well it did!!!!.
I walked away rather relieved that we got back in one piece and said I would give him a call...........
I left it for a few days and checked out my options.......a few issues were raised and the price dramatically reduced....I was now a boat owner, with a pontoon for a year. Be it with a worthless engine on the back...I was still a boat owner ;D
Well i managed to get a trailer and a barn to get it out of the water and start working on it over the winter months.
I am now back in the water and itching to show you all the project photos if only I knew how to get them onto this bloody thread.....lol
Well if any of you see a Q18 out and about running rather slow at the moment due to running in the new engine its only me.......
Help on getting some pictures on this thread would be great please, I have tried photo bucket but it says I have to pay !!!!!!
