I have been chomping at the bit for Conger season to come around, especially as I found a new mark late last year and was only able to fish it once due to the weather.
That one time that I did fish it however,it produced the most Conger I've ever caught in a session.
The weather was almost ideal with a bit of wind and chop to start with that died out after a few hours and no rain.
After answering the usual endless questions from the onlookers ;Dmade my way out to the mark.En-route a couple of miles out,I realized why the mackies were sporadic/almost non-existant
After a few hours made it to the mark and maneuvered myself into position a few times before anchoring. It wasn't dark yet.
That didn't seem to matter though as after about 15 minutes I hooked into the first eel, this one was to spit the bait half way up but it boosted the confidence
Half an hour or so later and I was in. ;DI had decided to fish two rods and hoped that it didn't snag my other line, but need not have worried as after a short tug of war there it was ;D
I had caught it on the rod baited with squid. After a while I wondered why the rod with the mackie flapper had been quiet so I reeled in to investigate.
As you can see, unfortunately something had bitten straight through my hook ;D
Re-rigged and carried on.
A short while later I was in again on squid with a mackerel "teaser"but this time it wasn't fighting much, heres why ;D
I nearly cut the b*gger up into a flapper ;D
The wind and swell had died off now and the sea was calm.
And Conger number 2 was coming to the yak
And so it went on.......
For an idea on size look at the full mackerel bait hanging out of it's mouth ;D
Until 1am when I headed back to the launch point a very happy bunny ;D
Oh! the score: caught 5,lost 2,did someone say that there was a football game on or something?I know what I'd rather be doing
P.S. the red line in the pics is my anchor line, they kept snagging on it
