hi all. i thought i might check this out to see if i can get some info as i am totally useless at fishing. well i have been useless the only two times i have ever fished in this country. my problem is i want to catch fish, which seams to be a popular problem amongst shore fishermen. lots of effort for no return. is there such a place on the south coast where you can easily catch fish preferably during the day??

many thanks for welcomes etc. i live near southampton. i am probably spoilt for choice when it comes to shore fishing venues but my problem is i am the worlds most impatient person and hence fishing is not that well suited to me. my wife wants to fish so we bought some cheap rods and reels and went to Leap and caught seaweed. bought rag caught weeds, excellent start. did the same off the rocks at Swanage a couple of weeks ago as well. i cant cast very far but i think the biggest problem is that i cant spot a fishy place. aparently you seasoned anglers can spot a fishy place...i cant yet. never mind. will try again soon. any advice welcome by the way.

Welcome! There are anglers from your area on here that will be able to advise you as to where to go in Southampton. Another good source of info is to have a chat with your local tackle shop owner. If you have any plans of heading to Pompey I'll forward some venues over to you. Good luck! P.s it may be worth a post in the 'General Discussion' section titled 'Southampton Area Suggestions'.

thanks for all the advice. some of it makes sense instantly. i have looked on google earth and can see the problem with not getting near the deep water. where i have tried to fish has been shallow and full of weed. Question....is there still weed in deeper water?? or can you cast past the weed if you find a place where the water gets deep close to the shore??
looks like Calshot near the road tringle gets quite deep quickly. does anybody know that place? also Leap east of the car park looks deep as well
i dont know what distance i can cast and don't laugh at the cheap stuff i have bought. i have 12ft telescopic carbon rods and abu-garcia reels. what size lead do i need?? i have tried 2 and 3oz but get a max of about 60 yards i think. i think i need some practice and a park sounds like good advice.
many thanks for all advice. Trip
