I had plans to venture further afield this weekend but the weather put paid to that.I was racking my brain(and the chart navigators ;D) where to go then I remembered a trip that Lozz and I discussed a long time ago.
The plan was to launch at Selsey and fish out by the Outer Owers Bouy. The only time I've ever launched in this area was with Phooey when we fished near the Nab Tower a few years ago.
I had a good laugh and a joke to SharkHunter on the phone yesterday about putting it up on the let's meet "Last minute 8 mile offshore trip, anytakers" ;D But that would have been wrong,,,
it was well over that ;D ;D
I launched from the public slipway at the end of Hillfields Road and parked for free in the car park there
It took me at least 2 hours to reach the mark, luckily I had a northerly wind to sail with I managed to troll up some mackerel along the way and as soon as I reached the mark a half of one went down on a 8/0
After a half an hour(around slack) I had a nice Thornback on the mackie
When the ebb started it was hammering through and despite giving it my best shot I ended up busting my weak link twice and decided to head back. The tide was side on and the wind had died but after about an hour the promised swing to westerly materialised and I was able to sail the rest of the way back
Another great day,19.7 miles covered that just would not have been possible without the sail ;D
