Hi,as a newbie fisherman I fancy trying out a bit of spinning for bass of a boat, the trouble is there are so many lures on the market I am confused to which ones to buy also some of them seem to light to cast any sort of distance so do you need to add weights if so where on the rig do they go ,any advice please guys, thanks

If you're boat fishing then go for rapalla (type) lures - you can expect to pay a fiver, but on a boat you stand less chance of losing them on a snag, and quality counts
Bass go for "shiny", so silver or mackeral colour are best, avoid the jointed ones (no advantage and more prone to tangle).
Weight - anything over 20 grms will cast well on light tackle - and the lighter the line the further the cast - bout the 12lb mark should do it, but when using line that light keep an eye on the condition of your rod rings in case they are rough and chew it up during a fight
Most rapallas will float, some have a "vane" in front to pull them under when reeled in - these are "divers" - some are surface lures designed to "skip" along the surface - get a selection of both - different lure depths catch on different days.
The above will get you started - but never be afraid to try different things, and change lures if not catching (snap swivel). I don't add lead, but experiment if trolling.
"Flying C" is another fun lure on a quiet day so check them out (cheap as chips too)
Bass will strike shiny things that look like fish - so think of that when buying lures. They will also hit anything that annoys them, which is why somes lures have "rattles" in them
Lure collecting can be addictive - just make sure you rinse them off in fresh water when you get home or the hooks will rust
But start with rod and reel - keep it light and "frisky"
Lastly - everyone has differing ideas about this stuff - listen to them all
