Hello All, Ben here.
Over 20 years fishing experience, mainly from the shore, and have just got round to funding a boat. Problem is I never get to use the bloody thing as I am always out of the country with work.
I have leave during November and am hoping the weather will play ball to allow me to get some cod on-board. Hoping to sling the pick somewhere in the solent or, preferably, out off the needles. Here in lies the second problem.....the boat is, in fact, a sailing yacht and at best does 6kts!
Not that this is a major problem but it does mean that a trip out to the needles (from Hythe) is very much a premeditated trip stopping at Lymo over night to catch the first out-going tide in the morning.
The next thing is, because I am always out of the country and do not have time to use the boat, I have not had the opportunity to go and find marks!
Get the violins out I hear you all saying to yourselves and I agree with you.....I was always told that if you are looking for sympathy to look in the dictionary - its somewhere between shite and syphilis
But if the weather does play ball and I do make the effort to go all the way out the back of the island I want to give myself the best chance of actually getting something worth while on board!
So if anybody is reading this and is feeling charitable any advise or lat+longs would be greatly appreciated.
From a bit of research and advise from a charter skipper, I know that heading south of the needles anything from 3/4 to 3 miles and looking for at least 90ft of water is going to get me in the right sort of area but with just a small scent trail going out (2 big baits and maybe 2 play rods) I feel I need something more to go on than just slinging the hook in 90ft water
Any info will be graciously accepted. That goes for any marks in fact - east solent, west solent, brambles, wight
As for me giving to you, I will be more than happy to impart all of my fishing knowledge to help anyone. As mentioned, I have extensive beach fishing knowledge on marks from pagham through to abbotsbury and when I get more time off to use the boat/find the fish (hopefully having added a faster fishing boat to the toy collection) I hope to be able to share some catches from there too.
Your reports are a lifeline to me. Keep em coming and hopefully I will be able to write some of my own in Nov........
Kind regards
Ben
