I've lost count of the times I've driven over the Severn Bridge and wondered what it would be like to fish the deep channel in the middle.Today was the day I would find out. Launched at Portishead and sailed up to the bridge Approaching the bridge there were 4 boats anchored in formation,Iwas thinking"make a hash up of this and you'll look a right idiot." I was chuffed when I ended up perfectly at the end of the line of boats. The fishing,I had 2 Codling ;D here is a pic of the smaller one that went back, don't know what happened to the other pic? Off in search of his Dad tomorrow at the spoil grounds I'll probably be there before you guys ;D

Loving the yak reports! I think it's the pictures from pretty much water level that do it. Well done on the codling, has there been any lunkers out of the Bristol Channel yet?
Steve.

Great report - as I commented in the shore reports about fishing the area, I guess it's no coincidence you chose a neap for your trip.
I don't think I've ever seen the water there look so blue as it does in some of those pics, though looking again, there's that familiar tinge of brown in the breaking waves..

No co-incidence at all, lots of planning goes into every trip for me. It is absolutely essential on a kayak, especially if you are fishing in places that no other kayak has fished before ;D

Don't they get 30m tidal range ...or some carzy stuff

Not quite that.. but the tidal range is very big and the current strong. I understand that it's the area around AvonMouth that has the world's second-largest tidal range (15m plus) but when I lived in Swansea, more than 50 miles downchannel from that area, a big spring was still of the order of 13.3m .

If you do go in, it's really no issue with the right gear. I'll be surfing in Jan/Feb when the fishing is poor, certainly wakes you up if in head first, last year it was down to 6C water temp.
