Not always easy in the dark but there is one sure identifier: The Dab has a distinct curve in the lateral line immediately above the pectoral fin but flounder is more or less straight. Shows up well in Reelbargain's picture.

The other way of identifying the different small flatfish is to rub your finger from the tail to the head A Dab is rough all over A Plaice is smooth all over A Flounder has a line of prickles along the Lateral line but the rest is smooth  |
