Never really liked the Garmin fishfinders, seem to pixelated for my liking. I know its black and white but have a look at the Lowrance
Mark-5 DSI (http://www.lowrance.com/Products/Marine/Mark-Elite-Series/Mark-5x-DSI/) I think its about your budget, I think It's far ahead of the colour Garmins.
