The cabin doesn't look very Orkney, another possibility is an Arran, their still made so look at their website and compare pics, the hull looks similar but again the cabin is different. Still looks a good sea boat from the photo. www.arranboats.co.uk/Rich,

Thanks for that chaps, it dose look a bit like an Arran. Can't wait to get it out on the water as i only paid £500 for it, need an engine now. I am looking for about a 25Hp as its a displacement and not a planing hull, what do yo think?

Hi, I have found a brass plate on the stern, J.W.Mackay, Newton Boat Yard, Falkland Park Road, Aye. I have put that address into Google but can't find number for the company, I can only think it has long gone. Have any of you heard of that boat yard? and about how old would she be?

nice looking boat for £500 .... I had a similar type of boat till recently (Plymouth Pilot) and as a displacement hull boat she will max out at about 8 or 9 knots. There is some very interesting reading on the internet about maximum hull speed of displacement hull boats. With this in mind I would suggest a 15 to 25hp would be more than enough.
