Well I know that I was wind assisted today (not sure about the rest) ;D Not been out much recently having our hands full with our 3 week old boy That's two boys to help me go fishing when I'm an old man Anyway, got to Hillhead at about 9.30 and set up the kayak and was on the water soon after. Glorious weather, but only 4 degrees.... As it was a manky NE wind I paddled against the wind and turning tide to Lee-on-Solent. What a lovely day Spring is well and truly here! Only did about 2 1/2 miles and when I reached Daedalus, I turned around to test the sail properly. You can see Solent CoastGuard just to the left of the mast.... Was doing well but the wind dropped to about F2-3, typical! The coastguard chopper was out and about a lot - good to see it is still there.... Anyway, as I wanted to go NW ish I wanted to see how it would cope. Drifting with the tide I was doing 1.6 mph and with the sail up I was cruising at 3.6 mph. When I actually paddled, it was a steady 5mph with hardly any effort...... Great few hours, and chatted to a 60+ yr old bloke who paddles 8 miles every day - respect. Can't wait for a day off again, sun shining, and a F4-5 Southerly to blow me back all the way from the Isle of Wight with me feet up!

I'll look forward to seeing how that works - it would be nice to sail into the wind too.

Do you think it will encourage you to try for marks further offshore ? I'm just wondering when someone is going to start fishing from a Windsurfer
