Well id decided that this year i was not going to bother wetting my yak till march as the fishing is dire between jan and then only dabs and whiting to be had in my area not exactly inspiring So i made a few calls and booked up 2 cottages for a week on the banks of the Sound of Jura .
There were 8 of us 6 on kayaks and 2 on a Warrior 165 .Saturday dawned and although there was no wind there was a blizzard happening i got the yak rigged the numbers plotted in the gps and then found no one else was up for it >:(It did worry me as at this time of year you really have to make the most of every opertunity.Sunday came and it was a glorious sunny day but blowing a 4 we got to the mark dropped anchor sat there for 10 mins and then decided the 5ft swell breaking waves and increasing wind would make things interesting ifnot impossable to land a skate,so we called it a day
Monday was a much better day and we were soon on the mark.Fishing was slow with only the odd knock ,then came the tell tell bite i said to nick here we go the rod lurched over i lifted into it and nothing :-X20 mins later and and fish on 2 mins later it had released itself :'(At this point i was starting to have doughts in my tackle.(last year i dropped a few fish and my mates on the 14/0 didnt)Were mt 12/0 to small :-/no im sticking with them theyve caught me plenty before ;)I was soon into another fish ;D
Soon had the fish to the top and released a small male 60-70lb forgot to take a pic but im sure nick took one ;)It was now Nicks turn ;D ;D
Not a huge fish but a great first for him a fish of around 50lb and he got it on the deck with its nashers trying to chomp his plumbs ;D
That was to be it for the kayaks for the day a few missed chances by me and a fish each for me and nick. Are mate Alain on the boat was doing a bit better ;D
With a nice male fish
Wednesday was another blow out weather wise
Thursday i woke and declared today im catching a monster ;)I just knew from the moment i woke today was the day everyone was skurrying about getting ready and i just chilled ;)I finally hit the water at 2pm baited up my lucky hook and sent it to the depths .5 mins later i said to Nick here we go fish on i instantly knew this was a big fish and unclipped the anchor line to be towed away by the fish.
20 mins had passed and i was getting no where id gain a foot and it would take 2 sometimes 10 :oMean while Andy on the other chain of kayaks hooked in ;D
Also a first skate for him
A 40-50lb fish for him and a great starter fish ;D
Mean while i was still being beaten up but starting to win
An awsome female 76-80 wingspan on the white side releasing the fish almost had me off the yak :-[Nick was next into a fish and i thought this was a biggie for him but it was not tobe a small fish of 30lb that came up tail first
Thursday was a horrid day say we went to loch etive fishing was unusually dire :(with ust a handfull of small spurdogs
Still couldnt ask for a finer venue
Mean while back in the sound the lads in the boat were in this time Gaz,s turn ;D
Hope you enjoy my account of a great week with good friends and a few nice fish thrown in
