had a rare spare day wednesday, and the weather and sea state were beautiful. The draw was strong, although in all honesty i didnt hold out much hope of bagging any fish. heart was saying possibly, head was saying, too early still. Anyway I packed all my gear in my van, roofed the yak, and off to an old spot i suspected might produce something.
Once i arrived, i kitted up and paddled out, and the water was beautiful, and the sunshine really lifted spirits.
I paddled around for around an hour but just couldnt seem to find the mark. In the end i gave up and anchored up as near as i could to where i remember the mark being. Fished for around half an hour with one rod rigged for bottom feeding bass baited with a side of mackerel. The other rod rigged for , rather over eagerly for some slightly possible bream. No bream only small pouting. The real big ones are gone. Anyway , im fishing away and bang bang bang on the pat rigged rod, and a nice pollock a tad under three pounds.
That will do nicely i thought, its something, so grabbed forceps and hoisted fish into yak.
That was about it, really quiet after that, so up anchor and paddled in closer for a bit of bassing on the plugs.
Nothing doing though. Oh well a beautiful day out on the water was had, and a first fish of the season, on first trip out taboot. Happy with that. So after a brief reflecting on a lovely day, it was time to paddle back to terra firma.
After a short while beached the yak, and was greeted with a gorgeous view of the shoreline.
After all, kayak fishing is not just about the fishing, but in my mind its also about enjoying the beauty and enviroment around us. Testament to the creator i always think.
Anyway, I hope my little sortie out has given all you fellw yakkers some hope and anticipation for the new season. Tight lines.
