Hi all. I'm tinkering with a little non running 8 HP mariner outboard. Should I have a spark at both plugs at ignition or does it initially start on one and then plug 2 kicks in once cylinder 1 is fired? Cheers in advance Pete

id have thought there should be a spark on both. try giving the contacts a rub with some fine wet and dry.

Cheers Purple & Codfather.
A bit more investigation has led me to realise that I have no power to one of the coils, think I may need a new switch box.

Check the bullet connectors from the trigger assembly to the switchbox Brown/yellow + brown/white wires If these are ok and you're SURE you're not getting any power to one of the coils then change switchbox

Is it likely to be the switch box rather than anything before it? Ta, Pete

well I take it from your initial post that you have a spark on one plug? If so then your stator coils are working so the only thing that could cause 1 plug not to fire is the trigger assembly, so check the connections and if if there ok it must be the switchbox, as long as you sure its not the coils swap the feed wires from the switchbox to the coils round, if the fault transfers then you know both coils are good

The green/white wire will power both coils when swapped and spark each plug accordingly. I did initially think it was the coil and you supplied me with a 2nd hand spare coil a year or more ago now. Looking likely for switchbox change, do you know of any braking mariner 8's Scotty?
