After the usual watching and praying that the weather forecast would have me heading to Bude,I resigned myself on Friday morning around 6am before I went to work that it wasn't to be again this weekend
Friday night at home I began searching for other possibilities and came up with Congering, the only problem being the only possible weather window was Friday night with a launch around 11pm! ;D
Anyway, made my way down to West Bay Harbour for launch and was rigged and on the water for 11pm.Paddled out through the harbour much to the surprise of the guys fishing off the walls with their lightstick floats And I was away.
Wind was southerly and after a hard days work the 7 mile paddle was a real slog.Unusually there was no moon to be seen,it was very dark.
By 1am after 2 anchoring attempts I was somewhere near the mark. But too tired to re-anchor again and keen to start fishing.
One rod tonight with one aim-Conger ;D
Sure enough after a while I had one on only to lose it through tackle failure
Re-rigged,tonight I was using single 8/0 hook with a mackerel cut in half then flappered, hooked through the mouth and out the middle of the flapper with a squid attatched to the hook.
After a while hooked another and it wouldn't budge,it just held bottom for what seemed like ages. This went on for a while before it suddenly started swimming for the surface I reeled in as it swum and it stopped just a few feet under the surface,it seemed as if the battle had really tired it out as there was hardly any thrashing about on the surface.
I did contemplate bringing it home ;D
Sailed all the way back and had a job to stay awake,I actually fell asleep a couple of times ;D
