I know I am getting on a bit but can someone tell me why the bloody shops , pubs and restaurants , call Bass ; Sea Bass. Do you get Air Bass? Do people say 'I was just walking down the road when a shoal of Air Bass flew overhead and crapped on me. Or I was late for work today because some Land Bass nicked a car and crashed it on the M25 because their fins couldn't hold the steering wheel. I know you get Sea Trout, and Sea Salmon because they goes up in rivers and lakes etc and becomes Trout and Salmon. And that you get other types of Bass in foreign climes. But why Sea Bass in this country?? How many other types of bass are there? Do we get Sea Pout, Sea Mackerel and if not why not? And what really gets I peed off is when these pompous cooks gets on the TV and goes on about how 'We have some lovely Sea Bass here' . It's a Bass, where do you think the bloody thing came from ;the Atacama Desert? The fact it has gills, fins and looks exactly like a fish is a bit of an bloody clue! Please advise an old man!!

simple. it`s to distinguish between our bass and the freshwater variety. i dont know why everyone seems to have a problem with `sea bass`

I suspect it may have something to do with distinguishing this as a fish and not a musical instrument or electronic device that enhances music in someway. That said they tend not to put electronic devices on ice that often when trying to sell it

That is my point!! Do we get freshwater bass in this country?? We may do but I ain't seen one nor have I ever seen Freshwater Bass on sale anywhere. I knows you gets Black Bass abroad and Billy the Big Mouth Bass that is found behind many a pub bar, but in the UK Bass is Bass, simple as that , or is it an EU rule that we have to call it Sea Bass?
Strange but when I was a nipper and we used to sell the bass we caught off the Fairways ( before they Jock xxxxx came down pair trawling and wiped out everything) Everyone called it Bass. There were no such thing as a sea bass.
Or is it a marketing ploy?

Years ago when I were a nipper, me dad went fishing and came home with two 'doggies' (the fish type). Mother took one look at them and said she would never eat that rubbish and chucked them out to the pig. Next day she went up the road to Mac Fisheries Fish Shop and bought two 'Rock Salmon' Came home pleased as punched and cooked them up for tea. The old chap never forgot that one!
Marketing!!!
Perhaps we should try it . How about Deep Sea Atlantic Scad Mackerel or Mediterranean Bullan Sea Wrasse. Yummy!!!

Would that be the
' Freshwater Mullet, that have been delicately enhanced in the subtle flavors of our local waterways for the last few months making them so distinct from their Sea Faring Cousins, with their unique and unforgetable taste and aroma.' £15.95 a Kilo ?
