Heyup
Well not strictly true as I'm up and mobile again now but Im bored and.........After my old man passed a few Months ago I inherited a carrier bag full of old photos including a few I had sent home over the years of fishing exploits and a couple of weeks back I went through and found a few,a couple of which that may bring back memory's for you older farts - before I go any further I must thank Nick(aka Sunny)for putting them onto the computer for me coz I didn't have a scooby and my beloved for getting them onto Photobucket
In the background is the old Southern Vectis Angling Club, you can make out the launching ramp as well.As kids we used to plague the old boys when they came back in from fishing out off the Forts for any "Spare Fish"
Yours truly was armed with his first ever rod in the picture,a one piece split cane and an old centrepin wooden reel, the entire lot came to 24 shillings and 11 pence
I don't think I'm even employing a running ledger at this point on my learning curve,t was very, very gradual in those days, lovely foot attire
A few Years pass and I found myself posted down in the Oman on an Island called Masirah - it was a fishing Paradise and these were just an example of what could be taken from the Shore
I haven't a clue what they were called,a lot of them broke into double figures and they used to fight like stink, they tasted bloody good too, please excuse the fact me budgie smugglers are hanging at half mast in the piccy
This was my best Stinger off the beach,it was a gnats organ under forty pounds. My Rod was a three piece DAM Pike Rod which I picked up in Hong Kong a couple of years previous and the Reel was an ABU7000 loaded with 18lb straight through. That Fish took me around half an hour to finally subdue, the only species that fought harder out there were the Salt Water Catfish, don't have any pics of them unfortunately but I did get a few up to twenty five pounds in weight and Gawd didn't they make your arm ache
We called these Red Fins?? The males had big lumps over there eyes,it wasn't because I had t*****d them with a priest ;D
A few Years later I was lucky enough to go to Kenya on Holiday and Marlin Fishing was on the cards,I managed two trips as it was blimmin expensive even in those days.Unfortunately I never managed a Bill Fish but on reflection I'm glad I didn't because I could never have ate a whole one - I did manage a pair of Kingfish though and a couple of Yellowfin, one of which was chopped in half by one of the Kingfish when it was trolled behind the boat as a Marlin Bait
Both the Kings went over forty but on 80lb Marlin Gear they didn't really get the chance to put me through my paces.
Ciao the noo peeps
