Someone asked me today why men go fishing?
Bloody good question when you think about it.
Why do we go out on a cold wet dark night in the middle of winter to stand on a beach , freezing our nuts off (unless you have invested in a thermal survival suit) with scant chance of catching bugger all.
Before we get there we have done the filling the flask ritual, making the sandwiches ,that we never eat. Buying the bait that we only use half of, then there is the torches ,Tilly lamps, etc to sort out and that is before we start on the fishing gear.
It is a dark stormy cold winters night. Any sane person would get a bottle of baby oil, drag the old lady in front of the fire and have rampant sex all night.
(Ok so now some of us old ones need two weeks warning, a coarse of vitamin supplements and two Viagra) but we could still do that.
Do we ? No we go out and stand on a freezing beach for three hours, catching nothing ;before we go back home and find out that the old lady has gone to bed on her own and worn out the batteries on her 'Rabbit'
So why do we do it?
Is it crap TV, crap sex life, too much sex and need a break,or some strange hunter gatherer desire to catch fish??
You thoughts please!!

why do we do it ,because its our small place and space that we can go to, sit and contemplate, get wet cold and cuss, think through all your troubles, chuck out a bait and hope that that elusive huge monster will somehow feel sorry for you and impale itself willingly on your hook . Sit on a beach on a summer night a gentle breeze on your face, the lapping of the waves on the shore, that sudden movement of your rod tip out the corner of your eye, your heart beating a little quicker, bang your in that magic world we call fishing, that one time when everything goes right makes up for all the s!!! we put up with other times. Having been on deaths door a few years ago (a QUadruple heart bypass and other heart opps) every day to me is a bonus, that cold wet night ,no bites, lost tackle , "dont care "i im still in this wonderfull world llfes great lads, enjoy every minute of it you never know what it might throw at you. tight lines lads .

Its not about a boring sex life, crap tv etc lmao I fish, just to get away from reallity! When i get that lil knock on the end of the rod, my heart pounds like made, the adrenaline that goes through me, is worth standing in the freezing cold/rain/sleet/snow, and blizardery storms, with my floaty suit and my thermal boots (Fishing is a massive part of my life) I couldnt NOT love it
