As it is so bloody cold , just a quick one to pass the dark frozen evening.
What are the members favorite three fish to catch?
1, Best taste 2, Best pound for pound fight 3, Most satisfying to catch
For me
1. The first mackerel of the season (summer is on the way) 2, Pollock 3, Place
Well it passes a bloody cold night, and spring is not far away.

I am glad I started this thread and I really hope other members reply to it because I am pleased that so far the humble mackerel has done so well. For me ,,one of the best fish in the sea. When the first Mackerel is caught it means summer on the way, great fighting fish, on light gear, and taste!!!!! Grilled , lemon slice , vinegar, bit of brown bread. Keep the feedback coming.

Great thread Old-F My choices: 1. Smoked Eel 2. Thick Lipped Grey Mullet 3. Maderia Butterfly Ray I was fortunate to eat smoked Eel in Germany - where it is an expensive delicacy – and despite not being a great lover of fish, this was truly delicious. Lord alone knows why we don’t sell it in the UK. My guess is that we are put off by the marmite of fish tastes – Jellied Eel ! I tried Jellied Eel once and it is vile. So, two ways of cooking one fish and worlds apart in taste. Thick Lipped Grey Mullet – in the 7 & 8Lb+ class – fight like nothing else. Granted the 2s, 3s & 4s give good account, but the really big girlies are unforgettable. On holiday in Fuerteventura, I was targeting rays and was extremely lucky to catch a Madeira Butterfly Ray. This fish was first identified to science in 1843 and has not been recorded since. So I stake claim to the World Record (from the shore) for this species

Bloody hell I remember I was in Furteventura in 1842 and caught one of them Butterfly Rays but they didn't know what it was. If only I had caught it a year later then I would hold the record.
