Teasers are pretty standard. The theory is that the predator is attracted by the impression of a small quarry chasing an even smaller one........... whether that is valid is open to debate. I have caught just as much on teasers as on the main fly. However! www.stripersonline.com/t/814532/sand-eel-teaser-fly-help

Thanks for that it was very informative I was still wondering though which knot to use to connect the trace with fly on the end to the main line.

There are as many methods as there are fly fishermen. I find the easiest and quickest is to tie a couple of figure of eights in the main line and then attach the dropper by a half blood knot through the figure of eight. Not only is it quick and easy, if a running repair, when chest deep in water is needed, but it is quite small in profile and strong.
