I was doing a maintenance on my docs and found the attached roller design. Although I never got round to making it, it does embody some mechanical advantages over conventional designs. For starters it reduces drag, since the rotational moment, due to larger diameter, is significantly reduced. By incorporating a large diameter bearing, pressure on the bracket is also dramatically reduced, permitting plastics to be considered. In fact the whole thing could be made from plastics, eliminating such issues as corrosion. The whole thing could be fabricated of self-lubricating plastics normally used in motor manufacture..........hard wearing, lightweight and CHEAP! Attachments:
