Heyup
If any of you Islanders ever venture into Mick Hensons E.Cowes Tackle Shop he has a couple of pictures of a Stinger in there that, had it been killed and weighed in would have beaten the Current Island Record by ten pounds at least - I would estimate it to weigh in the mid sixty's and that's a conservative guess.
It was taken down Burnt Wood a couple of years ago.I know the lad who caught it and he spoke about it at the time and showed me the pics on his Mobile but it was only today, seeing them printed off that I could truly appreciate the size of the fish - its f*****g enormous, the shot of it laying on the beach gives you the depth of the fish,it has to be over a foot deep and the one where the lad is struggling, very red faced to hold it up for a piccy says it all really. The Ray was "sans"tail, been hacked off by one of our Lovely Commercial Netters at some time in the past no doubt.
Its worth a trip to Micks shop just to see the Pictures - and obviously Kudos to nipper for putting her back
Best regards
Clive

Im thinking that little un was not from these shores ............. All I can say was that it was on a south coast beach. And being April the 1st was taken on a pulley pennel dropdown wishbone rig with size 2 hooks with half a rag worm. I caught her at 20yds and made sure to keep my headlamp off the water! ;D

I just tie the line round my toe and wait till I feel the nibbles!

Outstanding fish Rob.....clearly you didn't do a 'Steve Erwin' and fanny about near its spine 289 Lb.... how long to get it in...tell more of the story mate. Did it just hug the bottom or was it tearing around ? Oh, and well done to the fella on the IOW for his Sting Ray; especially the C&R.....that's the way to do it They were on my target list for last year and I failed miserably....distracted by them pesky mullet trophies ..... but this year - with trophy hunting out of the way - i will be after my first ever stinger.....can't wait for them to arrive
