I've had a couple of trips out to the same mark for the last two weeks.
First week, first time fishing the mark, expecting Smuts and maybe an early Tope.
Bait:squid and live mackerel.
Couldn't stay at the mark long, was restricted to around slack as it was a spring tide.
I didn't get a bite on the Squid but after a while line was peeling off the reel with the livebait attached.....It wasn't running like a Tope though.
That's because it wasn't ;D
measured at 65cms.
The 2nd week I had weaker tides but an easterly forecast that meant that it might kick up when the tide turned.
Bait:live peeler and live mackie
Launched at 6am.I was on the mark around 7am and for the first hour it was quiet.
And then all hell broke loose ;D
Within 40 odd minutes I had 4 Smoothound on the peeler bait. Then the livebait reel was having line peeled off it
Struck,,,,,,,,,,yes,,,,,,,,,,,fish on! ;D
Hang on
It's not running like a Tope, surely not,it can't be?
It bloody well is
Another pesky huge Bass ;D damn baitrobbing things ;D
This one measured 60cm.
Feathered up another livebait and sent him down.
Then the crab rod is going again
This one managed to get himself tangled up in the livebait set up
Then the tide turned giving exactly the conditions that I expected
So I upped anchor and flipped up the sail and used the easterly to take me right back to where I launched.
I can't wait to get back out there.
