Its a sad fact Trig but I guess they have to make a bit of profit - Im quite fond of Daiwa Sensor since getting it recommended to moi whilst fishing overseas recently(Brighton)s,lovely stuff to cast with, you can get it on Amazon for 7 squid a spool.Ive seen it going for twelve quid in some tackleshops ..........

I went to Scotties today to buy a penn rod and reel combo, told them how much it was on offer online and they happily price matched, actually it was less as I didnt have to pay P & P! If I can, I always prefer to support my local tackle shops, if these places go under, think about what we lose, fresh bait, customer service, invaluable info on local fishing spots etc.

The Nipper who has just opened a tackle shop in the West Wight is reasonable, but some of the shops I have used on the island have been really pricey.
I know they have overheads, like the extortionate business tax that is driving people out of small shops, but £2.50 for a tide table?
Money is tight and I am afraid to say some of the more established tackle shops have become a bit complacent about their prices in today's market.
Thing is; if you do go to a shop and by a packet of hooks for a fiver then see them on e-bay for £1.50, you don't go back.
I bought a rod tip eye last week from a well known Island tackle shop and was charged £8.25. When I got back Nipper took the sod rotten and found the same rod tip on e-bay for £1.85 + 95p , post and packing.
Shan't use them again!
It's really up to them to be competitive, or sell on line.
I think the problem with the IOW is that you ain't going to drive from say Sandown to Freshwater to see if the hooks are 10p cheaper.
Unless you go on line , or make the effort to go to other shops , the local shop will charge what they like and no one is any the wiser.
Unlike Tescos and Morrison's there isn't the competition between them to drive prices down , because it ain't worth driving 20 miles to a different shop if you are only going to spend £20
Having said that I shall still use the Nipper up the road's shop, cos I like the banter and the bullshit. But if it gets too expensive it's e-bay for this old fart!

Id rather pay a bit more and have a tackle shop locally any time. It would be a sad Island without them.

If i'm "bulk buying" then i'll go online, otherwise i don't mind spending a wee bit extra just to chew the fat and catch up on the goss
