The "bulletproof reel requires skills and techniques beyond many. The Scarborough Reel is much simpler to make (and very cheap!). I used to prefer the Scarb for deep sea fishing. The centrepin aspect permits a very sensitive feel of the fish at great depths. The only issue with the simple scarb is braking....... or the lack of it......... You have to use your hand and that can be problematic if you have a bloody great Halibut on the end! So, the attached drawing includes a brake pad on the reverse side to the handle. A wing nut arrangement is sufficient for adjustment. You will also note a box-style mount for the reel. This permits a thinner gauge metal frame and reduced problems with flexing/bending. I was at a loose end, so I put together this project brief, based loosely on the visual in the original posting. ONE THING I FORGOT! The body mount needs to be shaped and filed down, to fit a Fuji reel mount! Attachments:
