Hello all,
Can anyone advise where to catch Flounder from the shore, I used to fish Fareham Creek (upper Portsmouth harbour) years ago and you never blanked, now however it's unheard of to catch Flounder in the harbour area.
Cheers

Think 38 fished it and only 3 flounder was caught. Over the last week I know of 5 flounders that have been caught and all from ryde and bembridge areas I o w beaches. Baits the key .nice riggle,y bunches of worm one up the hook and 4or5 lipped hooked to do there thing.

I used to catch flounder right up the rivers in Ireland, they are not put off by freshwater. Pompey Harbour commercials have devestated them, selling them as pot-bait to the crab fishermen. Our beloved fishing industry at their very best Christchurch Harbour/river used to be rammed with them, but the commercials have cleaned them out. Certainly when I tried there a couple of years ago it was empty. We fished from the dinghy and tried the main channel, the creeks and mud flats; not one bite. I doubt it has improved ? You might try Poole Harbour, although they have also been getting hammered, there are still fish to be had.

Christchurch harbour does still have them but only from one small hole funnily enough known as flounder hole . Poole harbour does have them but is a shadow of its former self .. What annoys me more than anything is the attitude to fish like flounders . they have always been treated as a species that doesnt matter .. Bass get afforded near god like worship yet the humble flounder just gets pillaged .. for pot bait . what we need is a total ban on all netting in the harbours and all flounders to be returned . if the potsmen need potbait then use a species we have in abbundance .. its not flounders ..total disgrace ..

I used to catch flounder right up the rivers in Ireland, they are not put off by freshwater. Think it might be because they're Irish flounders??! Seriously though, it was always noticeable down here that when there had been a lot of rainfall the river Medina and Bembridge harbour never seemed to fish anywhere near as well as normal. It's more apparent that solent marks are outdoing the rivers and harbours for flounder at the mo too although the netting of said areas can't have helped
