Hi there Luke, just guessing your surname's mentioned in your email address??! Welcome aboard fella. I don't know if you've fished the island before but there are some great spots right on your doorstep in East Cowes but it doesn't exactly take ages to get to some other decent spots either!! Hopefully it won't take you too long to settle in so you can get out there amongst it, bon chance

There are loads of spots to try out all along there mate, from the toilets right round to castle point fishes for flounder all year round. Along the front (outside the breakwater) is a traditional spot for plaice from March onwards, the smutts come in big there too from April May time. This does, unfortunately co-incide with weed arrival but there are windows about an hour either side of high tide where it's ok. When it gets too weedy you can just move back inside the breakwater. September time can throw up some good sole inside the breakwater along with a shedload of eels and puppy smutts, fun fishing on light gear. Opposite the paddling pool and along to towards castle point is another favourite of mine, an all year round spot. The more traditional spot for bigger hounds is right on castle point (the end of the road) I've never done it myself but you can walk around the point at low tide to fish but you do get cut off, apparently there are a few good marks there - check with Mick in the tackle shop, local knowledge and all that. Once again fella, welcome aboard and good luck
