First used scallop frills on a trip out of Port St Mary , Isle of Man. Brilliant bait. Does anyone use them now ?

frills are the outer edges of the scallop. Left behind when the "queenie" (middle bit) is removed. Normally discarded and fairly flimsy. No good for beach fishing but fine for on a boat.

Used for black bream bait in Jersey, apparently. However, they failed entirely to tempt anything apart from crabs when I used them in St Helier Harbour....

We had a good haul of whiting off the needles in November using baited feathers. Every bait worked apart from the scallop frills, they totally ignored it. The gulls enjoyed it though!
