Hi , I am going to try my luck lure fishing can any of you experienced lure fishermen/women advise me , i intend to try a surface popper lure at night and i have read conflicting articles about the choice of line to use some say mono is better as it doesnt sink but braid does other say the opposite, yours confused ? cheers for any help.

I think it's personal preference. I prefer braid, I feel that I cast more accurately and you have the obvious benefit of no stretch and the feeling of being in touch with the lure and hopefully a fish! With the braid you can tell straight away if you've snagged any weed etc. I think we have discussed this in older threads, some decent info on here if you look back through the archive. There is a user called stevieboy that gives excellent advice, not sure if he is still an active user. I tried my luck along Cowes yesterday hoping for a bass or mackerel for the BBQ but no luck, saw one bass probably about 2lb that chased my lure in but he changed his mind at the last second! The braid I'm using at the moment is called spider wire. Picked it up on ebay, it was great value.

Hi thanks for the reply , yes i agree I went to a spot at the back of the island tonight and used a new type of line on the market nanofil that is neither mono or braid and found it to be brilliant , tried a dexters in the daylight then as dusk and night fell a popper but no luck , but hey ho learning all the the time , cheers
