Hi, I have been trying to target the Solent stingers from the shore (lymington end), but I'm trying to work out what bait is best. I have so far just been using multiple worm baits, but this is getting destroyed by the crabs in minutes. Would it help/hinder to bulk out my worm bait by using a cocktail of worm/squid worm/sandeel or maccy? The larger bait would last longer? Do these baits add to the appeal or hinder my chances?
Regards Danny

Mackerel fillets, with the flesh side out, work well. Mount them on a 4/O pennel. I've had plenty of stingers this way.

Worms always seemed to be the more productive bait, just make your baits BIIIIIIG!!

We had one of over 56lb on softback crab a couple of years back off Hamstead Ledge. As loopy says though large king ragworm seems the favorite off the beach.

Do you know what crabs they are mate? I mean at this time of year there is often a big influx of spiders but by the end of June they are usually gone. On the other hand, if they are just small shore crabs, I use a "pop-up" rig. I.e. put small corks or similar on the snoods so that the bait is a few inches off the bottom where small crabs can't get at it.

Mack or bluey works well for stingers
