Whilst taking 'Monty' (the hound) for his evening constitunal yesterday evening, I came across a couple of Nippers fishing off the wall.
Personally I thought they ware wasting their time as the weed is thicker than a Gurker's Forskin, but they seemed happy enough to be pulling in mounds of the stuff.
Now what I did notice was their rigs, lots of beads and things, a bit like casting out Mrs Oldfarts jewellery box.
So it got me thinking are fish colour blind?
Some on the Web say yes, some say no.
Are fish attracted to certain colours or just shiney things.
Now even a thick old sod like me realises that your tropical fish must see colours, that's why some of the nasty ones are so brightly coloured, bit like the 'fire worms' you get in the Med.
"Oh, look at the pretty coloured worm that Daddy has found when he went snorckling" Followed by "Oh, look daddy has hands like footballs for the next two days".
But what about the fish in our dirty waters?
Can they see different colours, or are we wasting our time with multicoloured lures and traces?

Plaice seem to be attracted to Green and Black Beads ..... perhaps they think they are Pea Crabs or something you get on the Mussel Beds, who knows?

Certainly makes a difference with lure colours in the waters around Dubai. Red coloured front, with white tailed lures are killers compared to the others available.
I think we underestimate how good fish eyesight is in our own waters. I know of a guy who fly fishes for mullet at night !!! If a mullet can see a fly at night then their eyesight must be quite exceptional
